Some people learn best by reading then doing and some prefer to watch a tutorial then try to replicate it. While there are many sources for video tutorials to be found online, few come close to the offerings of Lynda.com. In this months meeting we will view a special selection of their videos so members can not only get to learn something cool but also get a sense of how they are presented.

A question I often hear or read is “should I create one to one previews when I import my images?” And as with so many questions relating to a personal workflow, the answer is… it depends.

Content Aware technology was introduced in Photoshop CS4 with the ability to scale an image and have Photoshop work out what should and should not be distorted. It was perfect for those canvas extensions. In CS5 Adobe added Content Aware Fill, where we could simply select a portion of the image that we didn’t want and Photoshop would try to figure out how best to fill and blend seamlessly. The Patch Tool has been around for a couple of versions now but in CS6 it too became “Content Aware”.

Adobe works on the “little” things in their programs. They call them JDI or “Just Do It” features. They are not major program changes but are refinements to the programs that users request which won’t require major overhauls. The changes generally impact existing workflows and I for one am glad they began this initiative with CS5. Next time you think “why can’t I just…” consider sending the suggestion to Adobe Photoshop team at the address below. In the meantime take a couple minutes to see how you can name your layers faster.

If you regularly use the pen tool to create designs or simply make selections then you are probably very used to the ways available to adjust the paths that you draw. Well when one of those methods inexplicably changes it can be quite frustrating. Fortunately, for this change in Photoshop CS6 Adobe listened to its customers and built in a way to revert the functionality. What I don’t explain in this short video is that its not a preference which means changing it back while you are working (2 clicks) means more productivity.
