Agenda

OOP (Object Oriented Programming) in ColdFusion is the basis behind all the existing CF frameworks in use today such as ModelGlue, FW1, etc. Using simple OOP principles and techniques, you can learn to master developing for ColdFusion in an entirely new light. Add in the new cfscripted CFC and ORM features of CF9 and you have a robust framework upon which to build scalable, extendable applications. If you have experience with MVC frameworks already, then you can find out what's under the hood in simple OOP terms and get a feel for some of the differences between frameworks. If you're new to OOP altogether, you'll get an introduction to the basic mechanics and tools available to use in OOP development.

This presentation is an introduction to OOP and also a pre-cursor to an OOP code camp I will be hosting in the spring of 2011. More details on this camp will follow when I have arranged for the space.

We will also (very briefly) review the latest beta builds (or release builds perhaps by this point) of Flash Catalyst and Flash Builder, and review how the integration between Photoshop, Flash Catalyst and Flash Builder; and the integration between Flash Builder and ColdFusion Builder; provide a genuine RIA development environment that spans all aspects of platform development from browser to desktop to mobile. This will be demonstrated through integrating ColdFusion OOP services inside a flash based component during the OOP presentation.

NOTE: We will be meeting in the Centreville Conference Room.

Schedule:

Meeting Minutes

6:45 - 7:00 Meet & greet. Handed out some Adobe pens and some NVCFUG cards and hats. Only 1 of the 3 RSVP respondants showed this month, and one who did not RSVP. Raffle tickets were awarded per our rules and guidelines.

7:00 - 8:00 Denard Springle walked the group through Object-Oriented Programming basics as an introduction to an upcomming OOP Code Camp sponsored by NVCFUG. No powerpoint presentation was used. Instead Denard walked the group through code examples for beans, DAO and gateways explaining their use and purpose and defining service layers and some other basic fundamentals of OOP in ColdFusion.

8:00 - 8:15 The group discussed and chose 'Integrating jQuery in ColdFusion' as the topic of next months group.

8:15 - We went back to sweetwater tavern this month after enjoying their 5 brew sampler last month. Once again much delicious beer was imbued and delicious food eaten by all who attended. Much joking and war story swapping also went on ;P
